 Federal Firearms License

ATF's eForms allows individuals to file certain forms electronically rather than via paper applications.

The electronic filing is designed to be more efficient and accurate and will allow ATF to process the submissions more efficiently.

What is the difference between ATF Form 1 and 4?

* What is a Form 1 suppressor?

 If you’re building your own NFA item (such as a silencer or short barrel rifle from a braced pistol), submit an ATF eForm 1.

The difference between an ATF Form 1 and ATF Form 4 is building the item on your own or purchasing an item that’s been manufactured for that intended purpose.

 A Form 4 is used when a consumer purchases an item (such as a suppressor), online, or through a Powered by Silencer Shop dealer.

 If the suppressor was manufactured and shipped ready to use, you would use a Form 4. If you’re building the suppressor yourself using pieces and parts, you would file a Form 1.

We create this file as an EFT file and send the original file via email to you.

  Electronic file transfer is abbreviated EFT is a procedure that follows an electronic format and protocol to exchange different types of data files.  The EFT file we produce are FAUF type transaction, it meets the FBI Specification 8.1.0.

When you are ready to apply for your Silencer, you need to give the file to the dealer, and he has to add in the application.

 Because this file is encrypted, you are not able to open the file in your computer, but in the application for silencer, all your information will be attached in this file, Fingerprints, Photo and demographics.

 Normally it takes around 10 minutes to collect all the information, if not less.

 ***Each trustee on your gun trust needs efile for the ATF Form 4 application that the dealer is filing.  If you are converting a long rifle, pistol, or lower receiver to a short-barreled rifle using an ATF Form 1 application, you also need efile  for each trustee on your gun trust.
